History

Personal Note from Shere

"My Yamaha 881 flute was serviced and taken care of by one technician over the many years that I had it. Musicians from the Vancouver Symphony and other local orchestras take their instruments to his shop, but Sandro specializes in flute repair and maintenance. I took extremely good care of it and have always ensured that it was cleaned after each use and put back in it's case. I bought the Straubinger headjoint to add to the colour and variances in sound capabilities and also, to have more fun with my flute.

During my career as a flight attendant, I carried my flute with me and after 911, I began playing it onboard the aircraft and in boarding lounges to calm and relax passengers. This flute has travelled thousands of miles with me in my career and I affectionately became WestJet's "Flute Attendant". I played concerts in the sky to famous guests such as Jackie Jackson (Michael Jackson's brother), Norm MacDonald, Chris Farley (Saturday Night Live),  band "Loverboy" and "Chilliwack", to name a few who've been entertained by this lovely flute on my flights.

The acoustics in a metal tube hurdling through the sky are not great, but this wonderful flute has brought so much relaxation and a surprise element to thousands of travelers over the past 13 years. Here is a video clip of a performance on one of my flights to Vegas, we were at cruise level, approx. 38,000 ft and it was recorded on a mobile phone by a passenger. These concerts became Canada's highest altitude concerts in the history of flying :)

It is difficult to part with this flute, but I am excited about my new journey in retirement from flying and getting to know my new flute. I hope that my Yamaha brings as much joy to someone, as it did for me and thousands of passengers travelling through airports and airplanes across WestJet's vast airline network.

Best Regards,

  Shere".......

Condition:
As stated above, this flute has been extremely well-cared for, and has been consistently professionally maintained. All pads are very good and seal well with no tears.  It is in excellent used condition with only very minimal light surface wear that is only noticable if one looks very carefully in good lighting.  The Yamaha headjoint was used very little, so it looks nearly new.  The Straubinger headjoint is in excellent used condition.

Playability:
I enjoyed play-testing this flute immensely.  It has an unusually rich sound and crisp response.

With the optional additional Straubinger head (see below), an even more multi-faceted and colorful tone is possible.  While either headjoint is very responsive and has a beautiful tone,  the Straubinger adds a brilliance and depth of color, bringing this instrument up to yet another level.

Price Comparison:
New, the current comparable model 881 sells for over $6000 at on-line discounters.  Asking $2500 plus a small shipping fee for the Yamaha flute with the Yamaha headjoint.

Pricing for the Additional Straubinger Headjoint
The additional Straubinger headjoint may be purchased for $500 along with this flute, or $700 if purchased by itself.
